Following the critical success of Carousel, performed in the Jubilee Gardens, Ely in July 2005, as part of the Ely Summer Music Festival, a concert to celebrate the switching on of the Ely Christmas lights in November 2004 and Godspell in the Gardens last year, we are pleased to formerly announce the formation of the Garden Theatre Company.
The company is committed to developing local dramatic and musical talent by staging shows in Ely and Cambridge. Children and young adults will be working on stage with experienced adults and the company will be setting up a number of workshops throughout the year to develop talent still further.
Andy Bailey, the company’s founder and Director, said “Following our performance of Carousel in the Jubilee Gardens I was inundated with phone calls from people wanting to have a chance to get up on stage. There is so much talent in Ely especially amongst the younger generation and they love to have the chance to work with adults and be treated as equals by them.”
The company now has a website, and is running a competition to design a logo. Anyone under 16 can enter the competition, just visit the website for details, the competition closes on September 30th.
One of the commitments of the Garden Theatre Company is to develop our youth talent and as part of this program we are pleased to announce that on September 4th there will be auditions for new youngsters who want to join the Company. The auditions will be held at the City of Ely College, Downham Road, Ely and will start at 10.00am. Auditions will involve dancing, singing and acting and there will be a rehearsal of the audition pieces in the morning before the auditions begin.
