ON WITH THE SHOW PRODUCTIONS
On With The Show Productions is a Watford based drama project with a difference. Run by experienced local Primary School staff, we offer students, (4 – 16 years) the chance to act, sing, dance, create sets and costumes, write scripts and even work on lighting and stage effects. The end result is putting on our own unique shows.
Everyone has a chance to shine, ability is irrelevant, and everyone quickly blossoms in the unique atmosphere.
On With The Show Productions started in August 2003 (in tropical temperatures!) with a two-week project during which over 50 students wrote, produced, and performed our own version of ”Jungle Book”, named “Tails”.
Summer Project 2004 enabled over 60 children to base our show on the legend of Robin Hood: transferring St Thomas’ Centre, Langley Road, Watford into Sherwood Forest!
This Summer Project 2005 (1st – 12th August) will look at ways of bringing the yellow brick road and the emerald forest to St Thomas’. Allowing, as usual, a slightly twisted slant The Wizard of Oz will be based down under in Australia!! Think kangaroo for lion!!!!
On With The Show Productions also runs weekly sessions at St Thomas and everyone’s confidence has grown with each new venture. We have recently spent a term writing and producing our own hilarious take on “News at Ten” which was filmed by our resident BBC cameraman and Sound/Lighting expert. The efforts were much appreciated by parents and friends who came to view the result!
We have also been interviewed by local Mercury Radio and several of us have produced a radio advert . We will be involved in compiling a music CD in the summer term as well as performing at the North Watford Show. The recent production of Cyberella (based on Cinderella but with a science fiction slant) was reviewed by the Watford Observer and we are preparing for our next production on 19th March of Bone Idol (yes, a twist on Pop Idol).
In between rehearsals we hold workshops that focus on particular themes these have included stage make up, dancing and singing. The workshop on wounds was especially popular.
Everyone at On With The Show Productions share a similar ethos – the desire to be inclusive, where ability is irrelevant, and where everyone can grow in confidence and learn new skills in a safe, welcoming environment.
