Spotlight Players - Eastern Region
Spotlight Players was formed during the autumn of 1993 by a small group of keen members of several different amdram groups who wanted to improve the standards of amdram in the South Norfolk area. After much discussion a name for the group was found and a first production arranged. 'Spotlight On Christmas' was two hours of Christmas music, song and verse and was performed one night in Long Stratton High School (which became our 'home') and at Forncett Steam Museum among working steam engines and the tiniest of dressing rooms (all members soon became good friends!!) the following night. Both performances were well received by the audiences who attended and Spotlight Players has never looked back!
Over the past years the group have shown that they are not afraid to tackle productions that other groups have shied away from. Shows as diverse as 'Pygmalion' to 'Cabaret', 'Annie' to 'Jack The Ripper' & 'Amadeus' to 'Run For Your Wife' to name but a few over the past 10 full years of productions.
Spotlight Players are twice NODA award winners. The first award given in 2000 for 'Best Musical - Eastern Region' this for the group's production of 'Godspell' and more recently in 2003 when a special award presented by Eric Smart (Eastern Region Councillor) was awarded to 'No Sex Please We're British'. This 'one off' award is presented to Spotlight Players for the high standard of this production.
2004 sees another challenging production for the group when they stage the East Anglian Premiere of the cult West End musical 'Moby Dick!' The show will performed from 13 - 17 April 2004 and anyone interested in tickets should contact 01508 530488 or check out the website .
Like most amdram groups Spotlight Players are always looking for new members (both on & off stage) and if you fancy getting involved with this award winning drama group in South Norfolk please call Neil on 01508 530874 or email.
