FREE WEB SPACE WITH AMDRAM

Any Amdram or Operatic Group can have free web space with amdram.

There are two ways to go about this:

either submit ready made pages to us and we will upload the information, or amdram tekkies will design pages from supplied information.

We've added below some advice about designing a web presence.  But remember, we are always happy to help and discuss your requirements with you.

Whichever course of action you want to take, please Contact Us first.

SUBMITTING YOUR OWN DESIGNED PAGES

You can build your own html page (format is .htm), and we'll put it on the site.  Unfortunately we cannot give access to individuals to do their own updating.

All information can be sent as attachments to emails, as long as we know in advance you are sending the information.

Because of the time involved in correcting errors, complete pages must be fully correct in all respects.  It is up to you to check and send corrected pages if necessary. We will not correct them unless you wish to pay one of the amdram techies!

If you design your own pages, you must follow these guidelines:

1  Your total web space must be less than 100Kb, unless agreed with the Editor in advance.

2  You must agree a file name or directory name before designing your site.  If you have a directory your home page MUST be called index.html.

3  All addressing used within your pages for links and illustrations must be absolute, not relative.  File names for both illustrations and page names must fall within DOS limits - i.e. max eight characters before the dot. Therefore any amdram page address will be http://www.amdram.co.uk/page.htm and a picture would be http://www.amdram.co.uk/picture.gif  However, if Amdram design your pages for you then you will be able to have a more personalised web site address, for example www.amdram.co.uk/your-groups-name/  This is not possible if you submit your own pages.

4  All club pages will have a set of links added to the bottom of their pages along with our stats counter.

5  No mention of any commercial organisation or sponsor may be made on your page.

6  Links to any off-site location from any club page are not allowed without amdram's permission.

HAVING PAGES DESIGNED BY AMDRAM

Amdram are more than happy to design club pages for you.  The space is not charged for, only the time taken to put the pages together.

1  You are asked to keep us up to date with group information which people might find useful.

2  You must agree the format before hand with a member of Amdram.  You will then be asked to supply all the information necessary.  Supply simple information - you can supply text information in an email, which we'll assemble into a simple page format.  If you send a logo and a picture or two by snailmail, we'll scan them and insert them.  The type of page display will depend on what is agreed beforehand by email.

3  All information must be sent to: Amdram, PO Box 536, Norwich MLO, Norfolk, NR6 7JZ

4  If Amdram design your pages for you then you will be able to have a more personalised web site address, for example www.amdram.co.uk/your-groups-name/  This is not possible if you submit your own pages.

5  If you ask Amdram to design the pages there will be a small charge.  This charge will be agreed in advance and covers everything - no hidden extras.  You're probably looking at somewhere between £15 and £20.  With no further charges for updating.  This fee does not fully cover somebody's time for preparing the pages, but is a token payment towards it.  Web pages can take several hours to design.

IDEAS FOR DEVELOPING YOUR WEB PRESENCE

Developing a web presence is a personal thing, but we think you should be looking along the following lines.

Develop 4 pages with page 1 being the entrance - the page that every visitor sees.  This page could contain information about your group, details such as where they rehearse, where they perform, when the next production will be, when the next auditions will be, contact details, etc.  It would also contain links to the other three pages.

Page 2 could contain information about the current production.  A synopsis of the plot, performance dates etc, could be shown here.  A link from the current production would lead visitors to the cast.

Page 3 could contain information about past productions.  An occasional photo could be included, plot lines and a cast list.  A link could be made from the cast to the cast page.

Page 4 could contain information about the cast.  Each member of the group (past and present) could be listed alphabetically with a photo and lists of their past performances.  These would then link back to the past productions.

Once you know what you want your pages to look like, the next step is to produce them in a format that can be published on the web.

You could either produce the pages and forward them to us or you can ask us to design the pages for you from given information.  Either way you are entitled to free space.  However, if you ask Amdram to design the pages there will be a small charge.  This charge will be agreed in advance and covers everything - no hidden extras.  You're probably looking at somewhere between £10 and £20.  With no further charges for updating.  This fee does not fully cover somebody's time for preparing the pages, but is a token payment towards it.  Web pages can take several hours to design.
