Does anyone have a copy of Black Comedy by Peter Schaffer? or do you know the Publisher? One of our Directors has searched the net but can't trace it so far. Any help or suggestions for further searches?

Our group did this about 20 years ago, but I doubt whether we still have a script readily available. Your Local Authority lending library is probably a good place to start - they are usually very good at tracking down particular scripts when the publisher details are unavailable.

"Black comedy" by Peter Shaffer is (was?) published by Samuel French (1967). Somerset Performing Arts Library possesses a set (10 copies sufficient for M5W3 casting) should you (a) be in or near Somerset (

wish to submit a request at your local library. Tel. 01935 472020 if you wish to discuss/confirm availability.

Blind as a bat woman! I always access French's online as it's bang up to date then. Or at least more up to date than the catalogue. Good choice by the way. We've not done it but I have read it and it's a bit good!

There are several copies of Black Comedy at most Performing Arts libraries. If you look on line and find them, you can order them to be delivered to your local library and collect them from there, provided you pay a small fee and ensure you return them to the same library you collected them from.
Re the show itself, it's severely restricted. Amateurs are allowed to do it infrequently due to recent touring success (in a duo show with The Real Inspector Hound) and therefore please do ensure you have a signed contract before you do anything - more essential with this show than almost any other play right now.
