I'm glad I didnt see the Trinity website before I redone ours..OMG its so good!

But not knowing HTML, plus working in MS word and Adobe Photoshop, this is about as good as I can do.
Please remember it's a show site, not a company site. Its not there to attract new members, it's just for information and to perhaps sell a few tickets. I've gone for colourful rather than clever, but hope I've done enough to please the ear and eye.

Your constructive comments would be most welcome.

Thanks everyone...

Yes, but what's its URL? A Google search for "Angelwings Productions" didn't turn up anything sensible!

Sorry about that, I have a memory like a...now what was the thing with all the holes in it?

Well, I'm looking at:
http://www.asongforeurope.co.uk
though looking back at the original post I'm wondering just how I got there - are you editing the message at this minute? :-)

It's maybe not quite as pretty as the Trinity Players site, but it's free of the irritating gimmicry which spoils that site for me.

You've got one problem. You are using a tiled background image. Maybe your screen is only big enough to fit it in once, but plenty of people have larger monitors and will see a rather messy series of further copies of your background pic bleeding off the side and bottom of their display.

Oh yes, and the plural of "ego" doesn't have an apostrophe. The plural of ANYTHING doesn't have an apostrophe!

Thanks for the feedback. As around 70% of people on the net, including myself use 1024 x 768, I went for that resolution...but now I read that I should make it liquid, but I dont know how to stop my background tiling. Any ideas?

You need to add the line:
background-repeat: no-repeat;
under
body background="syn%20jpeg.jpg".

But I wouldn't use a background image at all. That trick is really intended to create a textured or patterned page background by repeated tiling of a much smaller image.

You don't have to go liquid. In fact you lose a lot of control over page layout if you do.

I've only just got round to looking at this (I'm a bit behind with my inbox). The first thing I noticed was the line that appears at the top saying "This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Windows Media Player'. I'm glad I haven't got the add-on as I imagine it would then start playing music at me, which is a real turn off for me (and lots of people).

Same comment as Laurence about the repeat, but it's not just the background - on the About page, the whole "We are Gelan" text repeats three times (1600x1200), overlapping the edges.

Apart from the home page, the page titles all say "New Page 1" or "New Page 2". "Ego's" is still there, and the white text is quite hard to read on the red and black vertical stripes of the curtain.

The pages are very slow to load - the About pages takes 12 seconds on my (not very fast) ADSL connection.

I dont understand about the NEW PAGE problem, or indeed the MEDIA PLAYER pop up...I've looked at the site on maybe 10 different PC's in the last month, and all apart from one that had a very high resolution...none had the faults you mention? As for loading time, it's about 5 seconds on my very unreliable 2mb cable connection.

In addition, it is common for sites related to musicals to have music on their home page. It is only a suggestion, but if you (or lots of people) don't like musicals and/or musical sites with music, you can always turn down the volume before you visit the website. It's like being asked to review a car sales website, and saying it was OK, but I thought the pictures of cars was offputting!

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like on my laptop.
http://www.auym23.dsl.pipex.com/web_pag_1.jpg

It has a rather nice 1440X800 widescreen display. But so do a whole load of other computers bought in the last couple of years! You really need to fix the tiling.

No argument about the mis-spelt "ego's" I imagine? :-) And good luck with the show.

But I like the stage and curtains sooooo much (sob) why cant they just ban widescreens until after the musical?
Thanks for the info Laurence...I think I'll go for a complete redesign using a stock background, but might keep the song on the home page just to annoy lots of people lol

I like the curtains too. There are ways to get that sort of effect AND fit different screen sizes. That's the whole art of web design as opposed to page design!
Hilary
The tiling on my massive Mac screen means that the page tiles vertically rather than horizontally, so I get the top half of the page repeated below the main screeen - very irritating.

Also in the synopsis, it should be reins (used to control a horse) rather than reigns (what a monarch does).

Otherwise, it's a pretty good effort.
