Helloo
I've got a couple of auditions coming up, and I've been frantically trying to find some good mezzo/alto audtion pieces. It's hard when you're only 20 and already practically an alto!

(too many fags?!)
Any ideas, anyone?

It may not be the most impressive show to do an audition piece from, but how about 'There Are Worse Things I Could Do' from Grease? Appropriate for a young singer, emotional. I'm not sure if it's truly alto, though - it sounds it to me!
Other suggestions - 'Adelaide's Lament' from Guys and Dolls, 'I Get a Kick Out of You', Anything Goes, 'All That Jazz', Chicago or 'Lost and Found', City of Angels. It depends what sort of performer you are and the sort of role you're going for.
Alto voices are lovely. They tend to get less leading roles written for them, but my goodness, the emotion in the alto range- they remind me of cellos. Is that strange?

I know it's massively overdone at the mo, but "As long as he needs me" is a lovely alto piece.

I think these are all alto songs...
Light: "Always true to you in my fashion" (Kiss Me Kate)
Romantic: "Look to the rainbow" (Finian's Rainbow)
Comic: "I'm just girl who can't say no." (Oklahoma)
Light: "Lady is a tramp" (Babes in Arms)
Romantic: "My funny valentine" (Babes in Arms)
Unclassifiable: "Don't cry for me, Argentina" (Evita)
Romantic: "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" (Pal Joey)
Melancholy: "Send in the Clowns" (Little Night Music)
