I've just watched "The Good the bad the Ugly" about an amdram production of "Twelfth Night" directed by professional director Bill Alexander. They didn't realise they'd selected the "good" until the end. It featured the Pisces Players. I'm sure they've been one of the feature groups on the amdram site. Anyway it was really interesting! Any of you Pisces Players on this forum? What was the experience like?

Best wishes

Obviously I'm not sure how much of the programme was manipulated by editing, but wasn't awful the way they said the Pisces Players welcomed anybody, and newcomers could get leading roles right away, and then went and asked that woman to leave! I couldn't believe it! That scene really gave (what I believe) everything amdram stands for a bad name.

Was this the woman who turned up at the end to watch the play?
I missed the first half of the programme. I saw it from where the girl playing Feste was having singing lessons and it was written in that Viola was on crutches and Sebastian walking with a cane. I will have to find out of anyone videoed it so I can see it in full. Why was the woman playing Maria annoyed. Did she want a different role?

Anyway, if anyone has these answers, join this thread.

Bye

The woman who went to see the performance at the end had turned up for auditions but was asked to leave because she "compromised the integrity of the group" (paraphrasing).
The woman who played Maria was annoyed because she fancied herself a bit of a star and was upset she didn't get the role of Viola (because Sebastian and Viola must be identical twins, and none of the men looked anything like her).

Sebastian and Viola must be identical twins

Could I ask for a medical second opinion on that? biggrin.gif
Tom
Just twins then- not identical!!! You get the idea!!!!

Yes, the Pisces Players were the featured group on amdram the week the programme went out. You can find out more about their group here

We videoed this and started to watch it last week but I had to switch it off - I just couldn't watch it. It was embarrassing and patronising. The group were super but I hate the way programme makers do this kind of thing.

We were approached a couple of years ago to ask if we'd take part in a documentary about pantos. The production company wanted to film during rehearsals and the final performances. We refused knowing damn well that they'd do their best to make us look stupid as they think it's what people want to watch. And we knew it would also be heavily disruptive to rehearsals. When we saw the final version we were glad we hadn't volunteered....

thanks...

meekly returning to home corner. I quite understand how people might not HAVE any comments they want to post publically. Maureen, you summed it up.

I watched and was nervous for the players. Must admit I missed the start and couldn't understand why they kicked that woman out.

I did think it was interesting to see how BA and the players thought they should rehearse. Anyone withmore experience want to comment on the differences?

Take it from me I did one 3 minute phone interview, got misquoted and threatened to take the local press to press complaints so gawd knows what the big time productions get up to.(btw I won cool.gif )
