Mrs Eeyore has set me a task: "Look up grass skirts" she said.
Fine I said - hat do you think I am A Perv?
Seriously though we are looking for a dozen or so grass skirts for our daughters' dancing display in a few weeks. Obviously money is short and surfing the net reveals that the budget could be compromised. Anyone any ideas ?
Thanks
George

Proper grass skirts?
Or is this for a "review" which you could have coloured/shiney skirts?
You know the stuff you get for Xmas decorations... Like loose streamers...
For draping over the xmas trees...
Get a strip of thick cardboard.... Which can be used as a belt...
Glue the streamers onto it... Would be my best guess...
Anything else is going to cost you money...

I think they want "real" grass skirts

Eeyore sweetie! Long time no e-see!
Actually Mrs Eeyore is wrong - you don't look UP grass skirts you look THROUGH them....
Anyway, the last time we used a grass skirt (it was worn by my Ian - he was playing dame in panto and was marooned on a desert island - his top half was a coconut shell bra!) we bought it from one of those shops that sell cheap "party" wigs and fancy dress. It was only a couple of quid and looked super.

Hi Eeyore
what about a product called Rafeen (Rafia) ?!? and sew/Glue strips onto a piece of elastic...
Just an idea

how about this to save on money and do some recycling at the same time...
Have you seen the mini paper manual shredders in places like Stationary Box? You could shred sheets from glossy magazines and sugar paper sheets and make lots of strips, attach them to some haberdashery tape. It's cheaper than buying the grass skirts (if you have already got the shredder).
Good luck

Go to www.chickenshop.co.uk, click on costumes then Hawiaan Accessories. They've got multi-coloured hula skirts for about ?4.75 each. If these are no good, phone them they are really helpful.
Cheers - Chris

Having bought chickenshop goods before, I think what ChrisD is referring to is the sort of skirt we used. As I say, I thought the one we had was perfect.

Just to resurrect an old thread...
The grass skirts were eventually made. The dance group aquired loads of garden raffia and mum-in-law spent many painstaking hours cutting, trimming and finally sewing it together.
last night a dress rehearsal - and the damn things fell apart!!!
Well a slight exaggeration but suffice to say they are considerably thinner than they were at the start.
Oh well...

So will they hold together for the whole run, or will the audience see more than they paid for.

Hopefully they'll stay together long enough....

Oh no, after all that time and effort...
Well just think we all know now if we ever need to make a grass skirt...
maybe coloured carrier bags cut into strips would be an option for next time...(if there is a next time)

so? did they

?
must say the amount of work involved makes making them yourself sound a false economy - the chickenshop option sounds by far the best use of you.

...well - we have the video and I saw it the other night.
Actually, from the back of the auditorium they did look rather fetching, if not a little bald....
Anyone need a witches broom?? Plenty of raffia going spare....
no way you could upload it as an mpeg is there?
