We are putting on a play set in WW1 so some of the cast will be wearing boots. I believe them is some stuff that they use in films that stops boots from being overly noisy on stage.

Any ideas what it is called and where I could get it?

Urgently???????
Maureen
When I last had boots on stage that were too noisy I covered the soles with strips of heavy duty gaffer tape. A couple of layers of this cut the noise down loads.
ChrisD
You could try pieces of felt or similar. This may help to cut down on noise. The other alternative is to teach people to walk quietly blink.gif !!!!!!

Get the techies to teach the muppet actors to walk quietly - we (the techies) walk around in clumping great boots all the time without making a sound

Backstage if you must, then lay old carpet. But really it should be part of an actors stage craft to be able to walk quietly in costume

But then again the same should apply to actors being quiet in the wings - and that doesn't happen either doh!!

Here endeth the lesson
George
Take boots off and paint Feet Black....

Lace toes...

I'd agree with Martin actually. It's easy to walk softly if you know how...

I should have made it clear that the actors are all young lads between the ages of 14 and 18 so couldn't walk quietly if they tried.
We have already thought of using gaffer tape but someone said that there was this stuff..........

Ahhhhhh all becomes clear.. laugh.gif

Okay make them walk heel first - that should help silence them. If you're still really desperate after that, then attach carpet to the bottom of the shoes using some spray adhesive such as Spray Mount (available from good stationers which will come off with hot water at the end of the run) To make the carpet non-slip use coke or something similar.

Yom can use hard foam instead

This is a really last ditch effort - I've wracked my brains (and my contact) and can't find this magic shoe silencer!!
George
Ahhhhhhhhhhh

That's a LOT more difficult.....

Hmmmmmmmm

Glueing something on the soles is your best bet.

Felt or Cloth might be too slippy.

Unless you can get boots with soft soles it's either "Threats..." or "Bribery..."
George
To walk without sound... (From my Army days...)

You place the outer front side (little toes edge) of the foot down, slowly,
and roll the sole to the floor, spreading the weight across the foot.
Heel coming down last.

With practice you can do this very quickly and even run with hardly a sound.

Makes you walk like you got something stuck somewhere but works a treat...
Martin
From my Airforce days it's the other way around, heel first laugh.gif

As long as you roll your foot down it doesn't matter - just don't let them stamp
ChrisD
Just watch ballet dancers, they can run QUIETLY. They do it by putting the outside of the foot down first. rolleyes.gif
