NODA London Spring 2003 Magazine is out and they've done a feature on amateur dramatics websites linked frrom their web site and highlighted some that have been well thought out, are easy to navigate around, and look good too.

Three have a special mention:

http://www.btg-theatre.org/
http://www.kvods.com/
http://www.egoproductions.co.uk/

And the following have been highlighted as sites for further inspiration:

http://www.belmonttheatre.org.uk/
http://www.collegeoperatic.co.uk/
http://www.gino-graphics.com/CATS/
http://www.eldorado-os.supanet.com/
http://www.playhouse.org.uk/
http://www.faringdondramatic.org.uk/
http://www.kingslangleyplayers.fsnet.co.uk/
http://www.masquerade.org.uk/
http://www.oxfordoperatic.co.uk/
http://www.shinfieldplayers.co.uk/
http://www.sideshow-theatre.co.uk/
http://www.southsideplayers.org.uk/
http://www.twickenhamoperatics.com/
http://www.woads.co.uk/
http://www.wos-productions.org.uk/
http://www.wyspas.info/

For everyone not in the above list (albeit possibly not in the London region), the above is something to aspire to ... and for those in the London region not on the list (like me), better luck next time biggrin.gif

hmmmmmm

I'm not too impressed. I personally think your site Kenny is far better than most of those... Inc the top 3..

(First one has a POP UP BOX!!!!! AARRGGHHHHH and I found 2 broken links... *wink*)

Perhaps those judging weren't technical people.. wink.gif
Simon
mmmmm, interesting variety of styles......

I suppose it would be interesting to see the merits on which they judged the sites.... wink.gif

It would be useful to know the criterion used to determine this selection in order to give people ideas on how to improve their sites smile.gif

well as webmaster of one of the 18 in the "for further insiration class" I am chuffed but a little humble. I do not work in IT or web creation and accept that there are far more professional sites out there, including yours Kenny, but if I can use cheap software and create an impression that bodes well for all those that don't have a web pressence yet.
The software used for our site is Serif DTP and costs less than ?70 add to that I use my own PWP and rent the web site address from easily for less than ?10 pa anyone can turn out a readable site.
I have to be careful with the next bit as you know who (NODA top man) is a member of this board, but say it I will. The review in the London NODA News came from the only region of Noda that doesn't have its own web pages under the National umbrella!
So don't take offence if you can do better and don't get on the list. I think the web ring which we have just joined is a good place to see what is possible. How about a poll of who uses what for web creation as I think most use Front page. What are the other packages used by members.

Lets not degerenate into "my site's better" discussions although clearly we all have opinions rolleyes.gif . The sites in the above list have done great work and so let them have their 15 minutes of fame biggrin.gif . I posted more frrom a "here's examples of what's good" perspective so other webmasters could review and decide whether their sites need brushing up.

p.s. some of the sites above ARE in the web ring.

p.p.s. I've just started a new separate thread about what applications people use to create and manage their sites so post those comments on that thread now.

Soory I'm also not good with words, the point I was persuing was that all forms of web exist and people should be encouraged. I certainly dont think that my site merits any credit other than it is a shoestring production.
Well done for starting the new thread so we can all compare our equipment
Zorro
Dogsbody, for the record, I think your website looks stunning. Love the graphics in particular, very eye-catching.
Martin
Out of interest I'd love to know how sites are judged - obviously there's the technical aspect but then there's the the subjective issue of what it looks like. I happen to like clean and unfussy but that's my taste

Personally I take my hat off to anyone who get's a site up and keeps it updated.

I wrote my attempt in frontpage That show's site but my webmaster re-wrote it in what ever package he felt was better and made it more usable

My one bug bear with all sites is poor grammer and bad spelling isn't it amazing howmany corporate sites suffer from this?

As an aside - if we were doing to do a training weekend next year, perhaps one of the classes could be webdesign?????
HelenC
I'm assuming your use of the word "grammer" was ironic there, Martin? wink.gif

Missing punctuation and lack of capitalisation is also a bad habit as well eh, not forgetting the missing spaces between words?

Actually, I contacted the author of the web review and asked for feedback which was quite positive:

As for your own site, I feel that it is very easy to navigate, with a nice
and simple design. Maybe there is scope for some graphics / photos on items
such as the newsletter which can tend to get a bit heavy to read, but in all
I think definately one of the better in its field.

So if you think you possibly deserved to be in the list, drop him a mail and ask him for specific comments smile.gif .
