Hi@All
Thought I'd put a link here to get into the Amdram Chat Room quickly rather than having to scroll around the Chat topic
Hope that's OK with you Mr Moderator
Amdram Chat Roomsorroy you may delete this post as I've just realised the Chat room can easily be accessed by clicking on Time to Chat. I'd got so used to clicking on Last Post.
I Know I'm just so lazy.

I was wondering how quickly you realise, OADS is my group!!
I just wanted a claim to fame for OADS as 600th member of Amdram.co.uk DB, and realised after the first post that other members have been deleted and OADS is actually member no. 627

Oh, there's a guest book! Maybe I should've started here. Hello.
My real name is Jeff and I'm in Cheltenham (in the UK). I act a bit, but never in the kind of productions that seem to occupy people here. Nevertheless, I'm hoping to pick up some useful information and maybe I can contribute answers too.
I'm part of
a drama group in my church here and we perform short sketches in services or at other church events, our own or other people's. There's sometimes costume, or some simple props, but never scenery in anything we've done so far. Anyone else like that?
The most elaborate thing I've been in was an abridged Faustus (Marlowe) last year at a summer school run by my favourite theatre charity
Riding Lights.
I read a fair number of plays, and books about theatre, probably far too many in relation to the amount of performance I do.
Nice forums, BTW.

Welcome to our place Jeff. It really doesn't matter how big or small your involvement with amateur theatre is. Here you'll find help and advice on a myriad of topics. If you've cast your eyes over some of the more popular threads you'll find that we most definitely do not confine ourselves to purely theatre matters
Enjoy yourself and remember that there is no question too stupid to get an answer from someone here.

Hi all,
My name's Cat and I've recently joined the amdram forum.
I've been involved in drama since I was 14 when I decided to take it as a GCSE. I'm now 22, have a degree in theatre studies and I'm training to be a drama teacher so, like probably many of you out there; it has taken over my life!
I live near Burton-Upon-Trent and I'm also in a local musical society-we're doing My Fair Lady in October!
Thinking of doing a masters in musical theatre or acting. Would like to do it professionally but I'll have to wait and see...
Well, hope to make some friends on this forum.
Take care x

Welcome Cat.
I'm sure you'll soon settle in.
Someone needs to show you the ropes though...
The Broom cupboard is where it all happens. Think of it as a kitchen.
The kettle needs constant filling, and there's a hot line to the butcher for bacon...

Singing Librarian
Oct 11 2005, 11:50 AM
Hi there. I guess an introduction is in order.

I'm David, and I am a librarian who loves to sing (though generally not at work, as it sets a bad example to the naughty students). In terms of skills, I tend to think of myself as a character actor who sings (tenor) and can vaguely move about a bit in a way which some might call dancing...
I did a few shows at school - A Doll's House (Torvald), Grease (Roger) and Cabaret (Herr Schultz) - then went off to university and didn't do much, eventually becoming involved in an annual local opera which combined professional singers etc. with an amateur chorus. I did five operas with them, but now they've stopped (not because of me, one hopes). I've also done a big local musical, Courtenay, and have now joined Canterbury Operatic Society, where I'm about to start as Gerald in Me and My Girl. I'm rather astonished that they cast a newbie!
That's probably more than you wanted to know...
Oh, and I have great respect for the tech people, as I have done some lighting and sound work and it's blooming hard!

Hello!
I have been lurking around this forum for a while now and thought I had better do the honourable thing. My website has been part of the Amdram ring for donkeys years now but it is only recently that I have started browsing forums such as this.
Me? Well, I joined Sandbach Players as a techie 8 years ago but a shortage of 'turns' meant that I was called upon to take a small role in play a couple of years ago. I loved it and have put myself up for a role in every production since. The review of my first performance said that I looked like 'a fish out of water' which was exactly the impression I was trying to convey so I concluded that I must be a natural.....
The review of my first main role said that I looked like a bag of nerves which was exactly etc etc. Actually, that was the role of Ron in Perfect Piitch who is a headmaster who has taken early retirement due to his nerves and I really was trying to look nervy. Honest.
Anyway, enough of me, tell me about you.

Oct 25 2005, 03:45 PM
Just thought I'd post as I have been AWOL for a while.
For those who don't know me I'm Loupie and as the name might suggest I'm loopy! I've just finished a degree in Animal Science and am now working as a science technician in a girls school. I also have a boyfriend called Skippy, who I may mention from time to time.
I'm now looking forward to being around for both rehersals and performances with my group (I always missed one or the other when I was at Uni) so I can actually get more invloved in things. Expecting a lot of fun and mayhem in regards to that.
Ok I've waffled long enough. Welcome to the new people. Hope you enjoy yourselves here and its now someone elses turn to speak

There's a guest book? Well, I guess I missed this thread when I first started looking around.
I'm a drama teacher just outside of Los Angeles--really close to the wildfires that occurred last month. I think they officially called it the "Topanga" fire. My stepdad lives in Wales, and he said it made your news over there.
As a drama teacher, I not only teach the basics, but I am also the producer, musical director (who sings but does not play piano or any other instrument), technical director, scenic designer, lighting designer, audio designer, prop gather, publicity manager, and box office manager. Thankfully, I have a friend who comes in and teaches make-up; and we rent our costumes.
I ran across your board when I was looking for background information for a seminar I will be presenting in a few weeks for other theatre arts teachers. I feel most at home here, as my mum was British--it's great to hear her "phrases" written so well on the boards.
