I'm a Lighting designer, with a fair amount of experience in Surrey - always happy to experience working with new societies. I specialise in intelligent lighting and programme professionally although exeerience in using the full range on modern (and not so modern) generic fixtures. Prefered lighting desks are Strand 500/300 or ETC Congo. Used to venues ranging from 200 to 2000 seats I do not Charge however if you're miles away some petrol contribution would be kind.

Also work professionally in the industry - but like to give back as this is where I started

Recent productions have included Jeykll & Hyde, Into the Woods, The hot Mikado, Saucy Jack and thE Space Vixens and Blondel. Upcoming productions Include Return to the Forbidden Planet (Camberley Theatre Surrey Nov 2006) Witches of Eastwick (Charterhouse School Theatre, Godaliming Surrey)

Martin with your experience & empirical know how, how about starting up something like an Amdram Stage Craft Guild within your local area.
I started up one many years ago, but had to drop it because of illness. Which was a pity, as it was becoming very popular here, with a lot of participants.
Not only techies but a lot of warm props as well!
I utilised my home base theatre facilities & that of other groups venues, even being invited to regional theatres in the bush, up to 600Km?s away. They were happy to pay for accommodation & travel expenses, along with suppling hospitality.
Invariably while there were a lot of newbies who attended, there was a heap of old hand techies who benefited. Even to the point of finding out how they could work there venue better.
Just an idea!

Sorry to all those I haven't replied to - due to the fact I was embroiled in work and away...

Now I'm back.

As an update.. My last Amateur Productions are still as my first post.

Professional credits currently read

Assistant programmer Robbie Williams - Knebworth, and Close Encounters Tour.

Assistant programmer/ LX Chief, O2 wireless 2005, followed by Live8

Qatar National Theatre - Programmer opening ceremony 2006

Beijing National Opera house Programmer Opening festival 2007

Blah blah....

Right bored of Huge rigs, would like a nice challenge. Ideally a musical and ideally somewhere where I can really contribute and add "value" to your production. Preferred location is in the South east as I'm 40 miles SW central London.

Whilst and LD/ programmer and operator I can also advise on set and production.

You will get me for FREE - Why? because this is where I started and I enjoy giving back.

Not into panto's sorry, nor village halls only because panto's don't need me, and I can't give very much value to small hall productions.

I cannot be your full time LD, however I'm happy to sit in the background and give advice and assistance to your existing team.

If you want to use moving lights for the first (or second time) then I'm happy to just turn up and programme.

Don't be scared by my experience - I'm down to earth and remember where I came from, I'm not looking for plaudits nor payments. If I can hear and audience say "Wow!" after a show, then my job is done.

Over to you guys

Hi Joe

It was a project in Melbourne, which didn't come off. If I could get a job in Oz though I'd be there like a shot!!!
The Book of Genesis

Hi Martin

I'm struggling to find the right person to help us ... but you sound like you're very experience and if you can't help directly, you may know someone who can ....

I'm part of a Genesis Tribute act called "The Book of Genesis" (www.thebookofgenesis.co.uk)
We are trying to recreate the stage setting, lighting and general atmosphere from both early and later Genesis live sets.

If you are not familiar with early Genesis, this involved a range of costumes worn by Peter Gabriel, normally with backscreen projections with limited, but effective lighting (we are going back to the early 70s). With newer Genesis, the lighting became a major feature of the band and a loss the exotic costumes!! Trying to re-create both eras requires a significant amount of know-how that we really lack - we have lots of ambition, musically ability, and enthusiasm, but when it comes to the stage/lighting/costumes, we're struggling. We do have a lighting guy with a loads of kit (some analogue, but increasingly digital) and a sound guy with kit too.

In the short terms we are playing some festivals (limited ability to do much with the stage) - however, we will be playing in a range of mid-sized/large venues and we are very keen to get a great set show put together. We want to make an impression from very early on that people who pay to see us will be amazed and thrilled by the whole experience - rather than seeing a bunch of musicians that can play their instruments well.

Please can you offer help/advice

Yours sincerely,
Bob Arnold
