Is your site big enough that visitors can get lost, or perhaps can't find what they need? Have you overcome this by installing a search engine? Is it a search engine installed on your server or remote accessed by a service provider?
Tell us what you know and let other amdrammers benefit frrom your experience.

Kenny, are you conducting a survey or just trying to get the record for most threads started in a day?
Our website (due on-line soon) is only small so a search engine wouldn't be appropriate.

I'd love one on my site but it's mainly photographs suppose it wont search on them as the file names aren't too good..

It's so much easier to use the Google site search function. It invariably finds things that the inbuilt search engine doesn't. Great for finding things on corporate sites where they restrict the scope of their own search.

We have a nice cute compact little site so if people get lost, well done them!

Ok gottcha..... I like it....
For those who aren't sure...
Put in the google Search for example you wanted to search Janes site for the word "Script".
site:www.amdram.co.uk script
It quite good at seeing how much you do have on your site. I tried
site:www.amadrama.co.uk amadrama
and got back almost my full site.
Very interesting and useful I think.

Sorry George, I should have thought that some wouldn't have come across it. As you say, it's very useful. Thanks for explaining the syntax to everyone.

I too thank you George. Am a net idiot so words of any more than two syllables or with more than one x in them easily confuse.

George,
I am not really sure of the relevance of your comment to the topic on hand, in order to keep the board legible to all visitors, comments such as the above should be made in the chat room >>>>>>
Click here to go and CHAT!!Returning to the topic, I think it is a good idea to at least have a very good sitemap if your site becomes difficult to navigate.
Search engines on your own site are a good touch but again the facilities provided on Google are excellent.

I have a public domain search engine by Fluid Dynamics installed on my site. A bit of effort to install, but works really well. Has a great admin panel which allows to you customise the search engine quite extensively.

I've got a largeish and fairly complex web site, with about 80 pages, which changes a couple of times a week. Google is OK, but won't be completely up to date - if your site doesn't change much, that doesn't matter. I use Atomz (
www.atomz.com) which is free and good, and I have a search link on every page. You can get info about who's searched for what over the last few days, weeks or months.

Agreed, Atomz is great. Easy to use and customise to fit in with the look of your site.

Atomz seems fairly good but sometimes its a little bit nicer to have something that you have installed yourself!
