Finally after years of having a pants and hugely out of date site We've got our new one ready(ish) for launch

www.ghosts-guildford.org

It's not live to the membership yet and if you look you'll see some links not working. One of our members owns his own web company so is having his team do this in between real work. It's being "switched on" in March but I thought I'd get some comments from you guys first

Cheers

I might be blind, it is the end of a long day, but no where on the site can I see what Ghosts actually stads for. This will be fine for members, but will leave a question mark in surfers minds!

I know it is Guildford something!

I think it looks great though. Not too "busy"

It doesn't stand for anything. Years ago it stood for Guildford Hospitals Theatre, when we had three hospitals in Guildford which were all under one management umbrella. Now we have one (one is now a block of flats and the other is a mental institution) and that one isn't in the least bit interested in theatre, music, etc. They have closed the community room and common room where we rehearsed and performed, and removed our costume store from the basements.

So as we have no affiliation with them at all, the name is just GHosTs.

Love the new site, especially the idea of haunts for GHosTs biggrin.gif

Love the site, very easy to use ...

Is that the Chair's own telephone number though, on the homepage?? I wouldn't want mine being advertised like that!

Yep. We can't make use of most of our members' other skills (doctors, surgeons, solicitors, etc) whereas other groups have artists, carpenters and mechanics.

Ah well, we can use wot we've got!

Fair enough. I would have thought that was an interesting part of the groups history.

The Constitution says we're not supposed to mention it....oops!!!

The site needs some tweaking - and as soon as I've got this weeeks show out of the way I'll be providing reams of stuff for it

and on that note it's bed time after a long day of cutting gels and tweaking the lighting plot - who says lighting doesn't work before the show?

Hi all

I'm the "IT nerd" responsible for the new site. Thanks for the feedback so far. Just wanted to say it would be great if anyone has any tips specifically about sites for amdram groups, as I'm more familiar with creating websites for commercial organisations.

Maybe, on the subject of what GHosTs stands for, we could come up with something new. I vote for "Guildford's Healthy, Outdoor, Sporty, Theatre Society".

All the best

fine except when Anne Marie and Martin are not in some dark rehearsal room, they are hunched over the PC network at their home! So that rules out a fair number of the words! smile.gif

Looks lovely, but...

"This site uses pop-up windows, please allow popups from this site"

Sorry, no. My popup blocker stays on, and I am no more likely to switch it off to suit a website than I am going to change my screen resolution, my colour depth or my browser...

regards,

You can just click so that it only allows popups from that site - not from any others.

True, but unless I know a site well and know that I'm going to trust it, I won't. And normally, I don't get to know a site very well if it relies on popups...!

For me, the popup is a mechanism that has been so badly abused, it'll be a long time before it regains any trust at all

Is that supposed to make us feel reassured? wink.gif laugh.gif
