Have spent the last 4 hours fighting with PC / firewire. I have uploaded loads of video from my mini DV cam to my PC via 1394 no probs at all, just plug in and go. When i tried this last week, its not working. The PC says the 1394 port is working fine, and i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, its not the camera, thats working fine, its not the cable, as i swapped with my Dad to check. Its just not talking to the camera. When i open pinnacle or whatever it only gives the webcam as an option. Its not seeing the DV cam attatched at all.

Havent moved PC / cable / etc etc etc, the only thing i have done a lot of recently is spybot s + d, adaware etc as i had a couple of nasty trojans etc. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why its not working.

Anyone any suggestions? pretty please? help? anyone???????????

If you haven't already I would uninstall pinnacle and re-install it.

Its not seeing the firewire port hence the reason its not letting you use it and it probably wont see it again until its re-installed.

When you run the spyware tools you have to be very carefull as sometimes they detect part of legitimate programs and you can end up deleting things blink.gif

Fishy,

Does Windows Movie Maker see the cam? If yes, then it's a Pinnacle problem. I assume you are using Studio 8 or 9? If so the best bet is to uninstall the software, run regdelete available from Pinnacle, Defrag and reinstall. If Movie Maker doesn't see it then its a windows problem. Have you loaded XP SP2 recently. That's causing huge problems all over the place as I know to my cost. sad.gif

There is an excellent Pinnacle forum at http://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/default.asp. It's got excellent advice from users worldwide, but nowhere near as much fun as here? You'll see me there from time to time.

Good luck ..... Robin

I have some touble when plugging devices up to my laptop. Sometimes it does not want to detect them. This is with Avid Xpress. Even doing a find devices ususlly does not help. I can only suggest having the camera turned on, before initialising the input or output on your software, so it has a chance to see something is there.

I think the Windows XP needs a refresh! Otherwise it would find the device even if it did not know what it was

Pamela,

Sorry to call you Fishy before. That'll teach me read things properly. wink.gif

I can't stop now, but without the OS and other machine details its very difficult to help. Is it on-board firewire or a card? If lower than 2000 Pro, you need to consider IRQ settings. Have you been through the Pinnacle FAQ? You canb find them at

Good luck .... Robin

Or try Videoguys. Loads of helpful info in the Tech Tips section.
