Okay guys. I need your help. Next year I'm producing a show at The Pendle Hippodrome. The theme of the show is musicals from the West End (1st Half of the show) and Broadway (2nd Half).

I've got loads of musical numbers, but I'd like to break it up with some short sketches/dramatic extracts. These need to either RELATE to theatre life, or be short scenes from shows which still work when taken out of context.

I also haven't got a name for the show yet (the last one we did was "Broadway Takes a Bow", but that is copyright of the Producer of that show)

Your suggestions would be appreciated...
George
How about writing your own stuff... Say for example Singing in Rain style story...

From 2 angles... 1 boy 1 girl go to city to be a star.

First they don't meet. Half way they meet.

Then they fall in love.

Then one dies (always a nice touch in a musical now-a-days) but in the end they all live happily ever after...

Just inset dialogue between each song/musical number with the "story so far"...

uh uh uh?

What ya think?

How about a new musical.. Mix Singing in the Rain, An American In Paris with Nortadame...

Call it Ringing in the Sane...? (think about it... please...)

I've always wanted to write a musical based on Guy Fawkes, and call it "Losing the Plot" !!!
George
hehehe

The boy/girl thing could be them first auditioning then getting the leads... etc..

Very loose story with just links to your songs.

Email me a list of songs and let's see if we can link them.

Idea for a name..."music of the night"??
Although does conjure up more images of Andrew Lloyd Webber than Broadway et al.
Janice
That's quite a good idea actually. We once did something similar using songs from A L W musicals, but shorter versions. As sort of 'Webber' megamix incorporating a few solo songs and full belt group numbers. It went down very well.
We also did a short version (about half and hour) of Starlight Express. Les Miserables is a good one too. Master Of The House is a great song and comical too and can involve the whole cast. Miss Saigon, the Heat Is On In Saigon, Blood Brothers - the one with the kids "I got ya, I shot ya" I cant remember what its called.
Any would fit in either half of your show. smile.gif
Aims
How about "West of Broadway" or "Broadway End" - although that sounds a bit like a soap opera!!

Janice I think the Blood Brothers song is called - "Its Just a game"
