Could anyone tell how why there doesn't seem to be many City or Central London based Amdarm groups? or am I just looking in the wrong places.

I want to join one, but there don't seem to be many listed in these areas.

Does anyone have a suggestion please? I did find one, the Stock Exchange Group, but when I searched on this site or the internet cannot find their website again! all suggestions welcome!

Not many venues I guess to put things on... No village halls...

And I'm not sure how much it would be to hire "Dury Lane Theatre" for the week... *wink*

Hmm - one of our members is also a member of a group based in Waterloo, if that's any good. I'll email her and get some details .... back in a bit!

The group my friend is involved with is Network (http://www.networktheatre.org/) - I've met a few people from this group and they've all been good fun!

Have you checked you local library for drama groups? If so, have you also looked out in the local shops and buses and supermarkets and church halls where drama groups advertise their productions. Check the local paper, ask at work, etc. I wouldn't give up if a weblink is unaccessible. Ask around, keep a look out for posters and if you see local societies putting on shows, ring the ticket office no and ask who to contact about joining. Why don't you give it another go Janet?

Best wishes

This is probably not much help but I had a friend who lived in Marylebone and joined a company who performed at the American Church in Tottenham Court Road.
Unfortunately we've both moved on and I can't remember the groups name. May be worth a check though...

I know the American Church on Tottenham Court Road. This has nothing to do with the thread (sorry Mods), but it's such a great story I have to tell it:

I went there for a recall audition for Les Mis, and whilst I was sitting in the corridor nervously awaiting my turn, Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer walked out of one of the other rooms. They were rehearsing "Shooting Stars" there. Just as I went through the doors down the corridor to do my audition I heard footsteps beind me and held the door open. I turned to see who I was being so galant to... and it was... Ulrika-ka-ka!!!

Needless to say I had some difficulty concentrating on my audition piece!

All great suggestions normally, but in central London there ain't a whole lot of libraries, local shops, and places where you would head for anywhere else. And when the local newspaper is the Evening Standard, well forget it!!

I have heard from Janet though by email and it looks like Network might well fit the bill.

Good luck Janet!

The Stock Exchange website is www.sedos.org.uk - I think they have just auditioned for their next production but wou donly just have started rehearsing.

There is a thriving Am Dram scene in East London/Ilford/Essex - if you're prepared to travel for 20 mins.......

I take it you have checked the amdram database - www.amdram.co.uk/groups.htm
