I am playing the 18 year old head girl in Daisy Pulls It Off which is set in 1927. The director has suggested that I wear my long hair in its usual style of loose, clipped back, just replacing my modern hair slide with a black hair ribbon. I'm not convinced that this will look right, particularly as I know it will keep falling forward of my shoulders.
I can't wear it in 2 plaits, as she wants the sixth formers, to look more grown-up than the fourth formers.
I was wondering would plaits pinned up be period or not?

How about loose with an alice band?

Well, I played the deputy head girl, and I had my hair in a bob with a black ribbon tied like an alice band, with a small bow at the top.
We did the same - put the second and fourth years in plaits or bunches.

Well I took along a plain black alice band last night to ask if that would be suitable. The director took one look and said too modern. But then she said that the plastic "tortoise-shell style" hair slide that I was wearing at the time would be fine, as apparently they had tortoise-shell in those days. LOL

Praps it a bit old fashioned but can you not put your hair in a loose bun on the nape of your neck, but with the sides still covering your ears, so it looks like you have a bob, but without cutting your hair?

Yes. I'd wear it in a chignon - the bun at the nape of the neck. Try to put in some waves down the sides and maybe create some pin curls. Perhaps a black ribbon could be put in to hold the front of the hair. Gel and pinning could give a stylish effect.

A low pony tail tied with ribbon.
