For our next panto we require candles that can be lit, go out, relit and can be moved along a chest of drawers without the method of movement being seen

I made some effective candles out of electrical conduit. The great advantage is that a 3Volt torch bulb can be set in the top with two AA cell patteries and a spring assenbly at the bottom.

I added a small switch on the side of the candle so it could be turned on and off by an actor while pretending to light the candle.

If you are moving the candles remotely just fit an extension on the base and move them from behind the set like the magicians levitation effect.

I forgot to add the bulb holders and switches are easily available from Maplin stores (or mail order over internet). The springs can be made from small strips of copper and use a cork to fill the bottom end of the tube. Use car filler or somolar to fix the bulbholders.
