Sir Despard
I'm playing evil baronet Sir Despard Murgatroyd in a production of Ruddigore and the director has asked me to darken my hair (being dark blond myself). In the past I have played older character and used (sparingly) grey colour hair spray but as I am playing someone my age (30) I'm looking at going to a mid-brown.

I don't want to dye it - I like the magic of going in looking like me, looking different on stage, then back to me when I go home from the theatre. My hairdresser says the mousses you can get are pretty poor. Someone suggested gravy browning (I kid you not) but it was terribly messy and not great a result.

Any ideas?????

Why don't you wear a wig for this role?
Or is it impractical?

Coloured hair products can be hit or miss. I found a good range of wigs at www.greatwigs.co.uk

The service was quick and efficient and you can specify when you need wig for. There is a huge range and nothing really expensive.

Best of luck!

What about using grimas? As it's water based it washes out very easily. It can be applied using a sponge or paint brush, so you can get some amazing effects without too much effort.

HGow about the wash in, wash out colour packets you can get? Or what about some of the colour sprays you can buy - the drawback to these is that they just make your hair a bit stiff, and you will need to wash it vigorously, but from a distance ie audience it looks good and you can go back to being yourself!
